Sten e Lex si incontrano in una stradina del centro di Roma ed iniziano il loro sodalizio artistico nel 2001, quando quella che oggi conosciamo come street art, in Italia, è agli albori.
Dal 2009 sono protagonisti dei principali festival internazionali di arte urbana con interventi di grandi dimensioni dagli USA alla Cina, passando per l’Europa. 
Ma oltre all’attività ufficiale con enti pubblici e privati, hanno sempre mantenuto una costante produzione spontanea, in strada e in luoghi abbandonati. Una caratteristica quest’ultima che ha permesso loro di mantenere purezza nella ricerca ed indipendenza rispetto ai gusti del pubblico, tanto che tra il 2012 ed il 2013, nel momento di maggior successo dovuto alla realizzazione di interventi che interpretavano grandi immagini realiste (foto anonime degli anni sessanta), hanno deciso abbandonare il figurativo per una più complessa ricerca astratta. 
Sono tra i pochi artisti ad essere stati in grado di evolvere nell’utilizzo dello stencil, solitamente mero strumento di artigianato artistico, trasformandolo in opera d’arte, impiegandone la matrice come materiale pittorico (lasciandola affissa durante e dopo l’intervento) ed il ritaglio come segno pittorico. 
 
Sten and Lex meet in a small street in the center of Rome and start their artistic association in 2001, when what we know today as street art, in Italy, was in its infancy.
Since 2009 they have been protagonists of the main international art festivals, with large interventions from the USA to China, passing through Europe. 
Anyway, besides their official activity with public and private bodies, they have always maintained a constant spontaneous production, in the street and in abandoned places. A feature that has allowed them to maintain purity in research and independence towards the public’s taste. So, between 2012 and 2013, at the time of greatest success due to the implementation of interventions that interpreted large realist images (anonymous photos of the sixties), they decided to leave the figurative style for a more complex abstract research. 
They are among the few artists to have been able to evolve in the use of the stencil, usually a mere tool of artistic craftsmanship, transforming it into a work of art, using matrix as pictorial material (leaving it affixed during and after the intervention) and the cutout as a pictorial sign.
